Smile drugs in Bangkok

This is one of my most exciting trips to date. First time out of Europe, first time abroad without parents or friends' parents. Bangkok was the first stop on my trip to Thailand 2 summers ago with my travel bud Sam. This trip actually happened because of very odd circumstances and really shouldn't of happened. But it did and it was amazing. Even the flight to Bangkok was fantastic, and the plane food! I'm all about the plane food.

Sam and I were staying in Le Meridien hotel in Bangkok. We were only there for one night before heading off to our new destination. The hotel was great, we ended up using the pool about 3 times in one day because humidity was so high.

Why would you not take a photo of this drug store? It sure did make us smile :)...

This now brings me to my first and second words of advice for someone like me who is a little bit naive when trusting people and things on my travels:

-Sadly don't pet the animals on the streets. I love cats so much I wish I could hug them all, but I was not injected with anti-rabies, so touching any stray animals was pretty risky for me. (You're all just like yeah duh! But when you see something like the photo below it's quite hard not to pet it.)

-Second of all, don't think that getting a tut-tut around Bangkok for 3 hours for the cost of what converts roughly to 30p is a good deal. Little did we know that our friendly driver was actually taking us to all his buddie's shops and restaurants and boat rental places. We under paid for the tuk-tuk but were cornered into over paying for a boat rental and our evening meal. It's pretty hard to say no to a guy who has just driven you around the city all afternoon for the amount of a Freddo. (Chocolate frogs in the UK, every child's favourite.)
So just really avoid public transport and take to the city on foot. You'll see loads more that way.

Long exposure photo taken at the night market (above).

As we were only in Bangkok for one night we wanted to do something pretty memorable so we spent the evening at the Sirocco Sky Bar (the one in The Hangover II). From this bar we had pretty incredible views of the city from something like 64 floors up. Drinks were expensive but we were able to avoid the waitresses. We had plenty of time up there to be all touristy and pretend we were fancy enough to afford drinks. Sadly, the humidity fogged up both of our cameras, so we had to settle for iPhone photos.

Could not resist taking a photo of this cooking book at the airport. My inner child was very amused.
